Project Profile
California Frozen Novelty Producer

Can you fit a 70,000 GPD wastewater treatment system in just three parking spaces?  The answer is YES!  After G3 provided a temporary resolution to this southern California frozen novelty producer's pH control issues, they contracted with G3 and GSE Construction on a progressive design-build (PDB) approach to a permanent treatment solution.  In less than a month, the PDB team, led by G3, developed 30% drawings and a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) for turnkey delivery of the project in <9 months, including design, permitting, construction, and commissioning.  G3's GMP was 60% less than previous solutions, and our PDB team was selected to move forward with the work.  Issue for permit drawings were delivered on schedule for City approval in under one month.  Utilizing the flexibility of the PDB approach, long lead items were purchased during the permitting period to accelerate equipment delivery.  The project was successfully started up in April 2025, one month ahead of schedule and City compliance deadlines.  The design-build team worked nights and weekends and closely coordinated work with the Owner’s production schedule to minimize site impacts and get the system built without a single production facility shutdown required.  Trendlines clearly show when the new system was turned on, successfully moderating wastewater discharge pH, even after introducing significant quantities of caustic or acid to simulate a chemical spill on the production floor.  Another great example of how design-build project delivery can accelerate project schedules while saving money.
